About Mark and his family…
After graduating from Oak Hill High School, Elmer, Louisiana, Mark Wood embarked on a small business adventure in the nursery industry in Forest Hill. He was a success but he was not happy. Law enforcement, serving citizens, and protecting families were the passions that drove him to leave business and enter public service as a deputy sheriff.
His wife, Tonya Melder Wood, stood strongly for Mark’s decision. This decision culminated in Mark receiving a promotion to Major in charge of the Enforcement Division in the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Mark and Tonya are the proud parents of 4 children and even prouder grandparents of 8 grandchildren.
Mark is a Mason and Shriner. As an avid outdoorsman, Mark is a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association) because the 2nd Amendment is a right he strongly embraces.
Mark has been active coach of Little Dribblers Basketball and summer league baseball.
He and Tonya are members of St. Peter Church in Elmer.
